The plans are set and the details are being finalized for the 2016 Face-2-Face Events. JP Horizons has been doing these incredible educational and networking events for more than 14 years and the Face-2-Face opportunity has become part of the Legacy of Learning coming from JP Horizons that companies have come to count on year after year. Hundreds of company leaders have come together to learn and share best-practice ideas in a very unique and effective way by combining a workshop setting with the opportunity to network and benchmark your business against some of the best companies in the country. This one-day agenda provides plenty of time for an in-depth tour to interact with the Host Company leaders and then take the learning to a higher level as peers discuss and debate the best business practices observed and how they can be used to make your business better. We have been able to facilitate FACE-2-FACE events at some of the greatest PROFESSIONAL LANDSCAPE COMPANIES in North America. Read through the list below. It is impressive.

If you are one of the many owners and leaders who has attended and participated in a FACE 2 FACE at one of these companies, please join me in offering a great big THANK YOU to each of them for opening up their doors and allowing us to look behind the scenes and use their company as a live case study to learn from and debate best practices to implement in our own. With this great foundation of companies and attendees, we are looking ahead to the 2016 lineup of HOST COMPANIES and making these great events . . . GREATER!

INTRODUCING THE 2016 LINEUP OF HOST COMPANIES . . .

Four companies have stepped up and accepted the challenge and opportunity to host a FACE 2 FACE this year! These four companies have some powerful similarities and some unique attributes that will make you and your team want to attend each of the events this year. When you sit down with the owners and leaders of the companies described below, you will quickly recognize that they are grateful and appreciative of the success they have had in the past yet know that the sign of a great company is to keep growing and providing opportunities for their team to grow as well. Each of the companies has been involved in and continue to perfect the principles presented in the WORKING SMARTER TRAINING CHALLENGE to work efficiently and effectively for their clients. You will find each of them attending national and state association meetings and other professional events in order to continue to learn and pursue perfection in themselves as leaders and their companies' success. They know the importance of sharing ideas and best practices by collaborating with their peers in the greatest and most important profession today.

What makes them unique and a valuable learning experience for each of us is described below:

Join Us September 20th in Louisville, Ohio, (near Canton, Akron and Cleveland)!

Todd Pugh and the ENVIROSCAPES TEAM have built one of the best companies in OHIO out of this small farming community near CANTON, and they did it with the ingenuity and hardworking character of farmers blended with innovative and forward-thinking operation practices and business strategies. A great example of this is found in the Mulch Mule that Todd developed more than 15 years ago that has changed the basic process of spreading mulch for all of the companies using the Mule today. This innovative spirit keeps the team looking for ways to grow its current and future leaders in the company with programs like "LEARNING DAY" where leaders from great companies outside of the landscape profession come and present to the ENVIROSCAPES team on leadership, management, service and connecting with the community.

LEADERS WHO ATTEND THE ENVIROSCAPES FACE 2 FACE WILL DISCUSS AND DEBATE IDEAS ON:

  • Innovations that can improve operations
  • Growing leaders who will run the company in the future
  • Networking within and outside of the landscape profession
  • Monthly financials and getting your team to own the numbers
  • Growing new opportunities that work (and some that don't)

Come Early for a Special Opportunity the Evening of September 19th:

Leadership Around the Campfire:

In typical Todd Pugh fashion, he wants to give more than is expected and has added to the FACE-2-FACE day with a very special leadership event the night before we visit ENVIROSCAPES. Todd has been very active in the landscape profession and communities he serves, allowing him to have a tremendous network of leaders and company owners to learn and share ideas with. Each year ENVIROSCAPES has a GROWING DAY where some of these business and community leaders come and share ideas with the team on business, life, and their own personal success stories. GROWING DAY 2016 takes place on SEPTEMBER 19th for the ENVIROSCAPES TEAM, the day before the FACE 2 FACE. Todd is inviting all of those attending the ENVIROSCAPES FACE 2 FACE to come in the afternoon before and to gather around the campfire on the evening of SEPTEMBER 19th and learn from some of the leaders that will have presented to his team earlier in the day. There will be food and refreshments with plenty of opportunity to discuss success and leadership in a very relaxed and inviting way.  Please mark on your registration if you plan to be there.

Visit Colorado Springs, Colorado, on September 29th!

Tim Emick and the TIMBERLINE Team work in some of the country's most beautiful scenery and challenging weather patterns, yet the company has continued to grow and expand for over 34 years. TIMBERLINE has a commitment to its mission "Creating a little bit of Heaven," knowing that their work is important for the well-being, health, and enjoyment for every one of the individuals and companies that hire them to maintain and improve their properties. They have tackled projects like the Manitou Incline where they incorporated helicopters to rebuild this two- mile climb up a mountain. They have also experienced great success with a Christmas Décor franchise, design build, irrigation, and ranching. There is a young veteran leadership team that drives the company, and their success has created the need to build a new facility in the next year. They have been committed to continuous improvement through the Working Smarter Training Challenge, and this will be the second time they have hosted a FACE 2 FACE, with the first time being in 2009.

LEADERS WHO ATTEND THE TIMBERLINE FACE 2 FACE WILL DISCUSS AND DEBATE IDEAS ON:

  • The importance of a meaningful MISSION
  • The courage to tackle the impossible jobs and win
  • Creating and managing multiple profit centers
  • Designing and building a new facility
  • Building a great Leadership Team

Plan to join us in Upper Marlboro Washington D.C. on October 6th!

Bill Hardy and Doug Delano have had an interesting journey to their partnership and the formation of LEVEL GREEN. They have worked together at other leading companies. Bill even hired Doug for his first landscape job as a career change from being a teacher. Starting Level Green later in their careers than most entrepreneurs in our profession, they have used their passion and business acumen to build a tremendous multi-branch company that is attracting more great people to join and continue their commitment to growth and success. They are passionate about creating a culture that makes LEVEL GREEN a "great place to be" which enables recruiting, hiring and retention to be an asset that ultimately provides great service to their customers with increased opportunities for the company. A walk through their main branch in Upper Marlboro shows a passion for organization, well-maintained equipment, training, and production success.

LEADERS WHO ATTEND THE LEVEL GREEN FACE 2 FACE WILL DISCUSS AND DEBATE IDEAS ON:

  • Building a great culture to attract the greatest people
  • Staying committed as owners
  • Opening branches and maintaining and improving the processes
  • Creating the time to train on safety and the technical skills of landscape management
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and learning

A LEGACY OF SUPPORT AND INNOVATION

Somewhere in the history of the FACE-2-FACE Events, we added the "SMART COMPANIES" and it expanded the effectiveness of the learning experience tremendously. SMART COMPANIES are those innovative and forward-thinking suppliers and service providers to the Landscape Profession that see themselves as more than just a sponsor of a meeting. As a matter of fact, we were not interested in having just sponsors for any JP HORIZONS events. Sponsors at trade shows and industry events always seemed to be just an add on to the process and we feel like they deserve more than giving a lot of money to put their banner up on the wall and then hoping their allotted 5 minutes of time talking over the crowd that is more interested in eating and drinking at the opening reception will get the attention of the people they are wanting to serve. It just doesn't seem to work. We were also not interested in having sponsors in the hall looking at their text messages waiting for the attendees to get out of their education events to come to their booth or tables. We have challenged our sponsors to become active participants in the education and to share their knowledge as well as gain a deeper understanding of the LANDSCAPE PROFESSION as they interacted, shared ideas, and presented solutions with everyone attending the FACE 2 FACE. That is why we call this group SMART COMPANIES; because what they are doing is . . . SMART and an example of what we all need to be doing with those we serve. We need to be learning more about our customers in order to perfect our service or product to meet their needs. We need to offer solutions and support that could help them be more successful in their businesses while developing relationships that can last a lifetime, making it easier for our customers to buy from us. This is part of the Face-2-Face Legacy of Learning, and our lineup of SMART COMPANIES is all of this and more. They bring an innovative spirit of new ideas and forward-thinking solutions that help in every aspect of your business from the way you manage ice and snow to the way you manage turf. They offer forward-thinking solutions on training, tracking time and eliminating paper, tracking assets and creating efficiencies. They also offer the very best solutions in helping the Outdoor Living Profession entice their customers to Come Alive Outside even at night and enjoy beautiful outdoor spaces. It will be these SMART COMPANIES that help every FACE 2 FACE event be more meaningful and a greater learning experience for everyone.
